I will be most unlikely to fly from Gatwick again; my overall journey time (in both directions) is shorter via Birmingham, despite being twice the distance by car.

We flew Globespan from Gatwick in May and we were waiting 4.5 hours to book in and over an hour waiting in departure lounge to board!!!!!!!!!! The waiting section for check in was closed and when opened they had to get people from other tour operators to come and assist them, as the queue was into the next departure area and round again! The check in for people business class was non existent and also people who had pre-checked in was also non existent too!!!!! Poor airline service and airline from Gatwick to Canada.

Travelled back from Corfu into Gatwick arrived 17.10 at Gatwick airport and departed from Gatwick at 19.35. The queques at immigration were unbeleivable, however that was nothing compared to the wait for our luggage. Everyone was kept waiting in the baggage hall. My husband finally lost his temper at 18.30 and went to the baggage enquiries desk to be told that they had no idea where the luggage was and to just wait!. At 19.00 we went again to the baggage desk and asked them to find out a very strong exchange of words was had and finally after pressing them to make an announcement to advise the passengers that there was a DELAY and the baggage would appear within the the next 2 to 3 mins. Within 2 mins two bags appeared which did not belong to anyone of of our flight as they were not taken. At 19.15 I went back to enquire when the baggage would be sent up I was told "oh has nothing appeared, it looks like the baggage people are upto their tricks again, I am sure it will start to appear". At 19.20 the bags appeared. We had a taxi waiting outside to collect us the driver patiently waited but due to the delay of the BAGGAGE he had to cancel his next pick up gong to Heathrow. He lost business and we lost valuable time .

I had the misfortune to travel back to GLA from LGW last night. I had checked in online to cut out one queue but the queue for security was horrendous. It was so long they had a staff member wearing a yellow tshirt and carrying a yellow sign to mark the end of the queue, otherwise I doubt people would have found the end!
As I got nearer the security desk for boarding cards it became clear that not all security lanes were open. There were 4 lanes closed! If all lanes had been open then the delay would have been a fraction of the time.

Once again the procedure at the security search is not consistent throughout BAA airports. The security staff member who was loading everyone's items onto the xray machine was himself party to blame for the dealy. he was very slow in processing each person and was having a chat with each passenger! At LGW last night laptops had to be removed from bags but at GLA in the morning they didn't!

Something has to be done about the farce that is currently airport security in this country, I travel regularly and it only seems to be getting worse not better!

My problems occured on my diverted inbound flight to Stanstead. Stanstead airport staff were unable to assist our plane for 1 hour 30 mins, meaning we missed our flight to Gatwick and instead sat on the plane and waited a further 40 mins to be collected by coach and taken to the airport. Then staff changed their minds about baggage, yes you can collect from Stanstead, next they said it was being taken back to Gatwick without us and we would recieve it through the post! Then a last minute decision was made and we were able to collect our suitcases after another hours wait.
