| | Posted on 06 November 2007 12:24 | | | | The security process at Gatwick must be the worst in the world. There is hardly any attempt to demarcate queues in the run-up to the desk where boarding passes are first checked. Once you have managed to fight your way through those queues, you then have to - literally - fight your way into the queue for the scanners. If you get through the far left entrance, you have all the other people pushing from the right. If you get through the far right entrance, you have to contend with everyone pushing in from the doors as you go past them. The queue I was directed to for the scanner machine DID NOT MOVE FOR 20 MINUTES. I had to push my way into another queue to avoid missing my flight. There is no infomation, no crowd control, no politeness, and everything is controlled by the fact that everyone knows that if they make a fuss their lives will be made hell. Many elderly people that I watched really, really struggled to stand for the hour plus required by this process, and no attempt was made to help them at all. | | ............................................................................................................................................................................................. |

| | Posted on 29 October 2007 14:13 | | | One of the worst delays at airports is not surveyed - namely the time to get from passport control to collection of luggage. On return from the above journey people were streaming out of passport control (which was very efficient) into a relatively small area to await details of which carousel their luggage would be arriving on. Only one set of monitors was working (not unusual for Gatwick) and the result was a mass of unhappy travellers. It took about 20 mins for the information on our flight to be dispalyed. This is a frequent occurence at Gatwick and one I have experienced and complained about previously, but nothing seems to improve. The situation is bad at night and particularly bad on Sundays. | | ............................................................................................................................................................................................. |

| | Posted on 24 October 2007 18:51 | | | | flight was delayed xla5106 due to plane being diverted to barbados. told at 6.50 by member of staff to come back in 1 hour. went back to wait at 7.45 and during this time until boarding passes were given, staff stayed huddled together and it was left to passengers to advise other pasengers. we were told the bording would take place at 12.40 but this didnt happen and no announcements were made, only normal board saying flight delayed. was then advised by board to go to gate number at 1.45 where we had to wait again whilst plane was being cleaned anc checked. boarding didnt commence until approx 2.25 and passengers where rushed into their seats. eventually took off approx 3 pm. only £5 voucher per person offered. | | ............................................................................................................................................................................................. |

| | Posted on 24 October 2007 11:19 | | | Check in at the Virgin desk was painfully slow! I wish I'd done the on line check in and baggage drop as there was no queue for this.
Why oh why do people still ignore the rules of what is allowed in your hand luggage!! Getting through Security was so slow and very annoying.

| | Posted on 24 October 2007 11:19 | | | Although there was an extremley long queue on arrival into Heathrow going through security, we were moved through very quickly and efficiently. There were 3 rows to speed things up and I was very impressed considering when I saw the queue I expected being in it for over 2 hrs !!

| | Posted on 20 October 2007 18:04 | | | | The queue for Passport Control at Gatwick was horrenedous. This was at about 7.15 in the morning and the queue went nearly round the airport and it left us with only fifteen minutes before boarding our plane. I must admit it put a damper on our holiday as it makes it very tiring with all the queueing. I am not a young person and found it extremely difficult standing for such a long time but elderly people must find it very unpleasant. Everyone was complaining about it and although I can see the need for safety of passengers and strict passport control, perhaps more staff should be put on to cope with the amount of travellers passing through. | | ............................................................................................................................................................................................. |
