The XL check-in was a shambles. There was a queue for each destination but customers couldn't identify which queue they should be in and there was no help. We ( as were others) were in the wrong queue for 20 mins and passengers were constantly asking where they should be queueig for their flight. Having got in the right queue it was the slowest moving I have ever come accross. The passport barcode reader wasn't working so passport details were being typed in and the baggage conveyor kept jamming .The most efficient check-ins are those where there is only one queue for all of the airlines destinations.
The security queue was a joke - the longest I've ever seen. It took a good hour to get through and passengers could easily have missed their flights. As we were travelling in September I would have thought the airport could have got it's act together. They need to seriously look at how they can speed things up. In contrast coming back from Malaga it took half an hour to check-in and get through security.

I was quite inpressed in the improvement at gatwick. My daughter is a TC and warned me that Gatwick could be bad but they have obviously employed more staff as all but one of the xray cameras were manned. I cannot comment on checkin as I did this online.

Premium check-in for Thomas Cook. 2nd in line, with 1 other family behind. Security check, constant moving line. 10 minutes waiting. No problems. Returning passport check was the worst. Our line was the slowest. The elderly bearded gentleman checking our passports was 'relaxed', whereas the others could see the queues getting bigger, and sped up

Gatwick South. Far too many flights have been allowed to operate for the infrastructure

When 5 flights landed within half an hour of each other at LGW, no extra staff were put on the British/EU immigration desks. At 22:45 we stood in a queue of around 500 people; including families with young children and elderly people, waiting to be processed by FOUR members of Immigration staff. Meanwhile, in the non-EU queue, Americans, Australians and people of other non-EU nationalities (of which there were a very small number), merrily waltzed up to the four immigration officials on their side of the hall, whilst us British citizens looked on miserably. There was no explanation for the delay or announcements (as they do at Stansted) and when I finally reached the front of the queue and asked where I could complain, the Immigration officer wordlessly handed me a leaflet about having my retina scanned!?

We needn't have worried about the delay, however, as it turned out the our Easyjet flight from Nice had 'lost power' on the tarmac and it was impossible to get our baggage out of it. Two hours later (at 01:20, just in time to miss the last Gatwick Express) our luggage was finally delivered and we all joined the taxi queue to get out of this hell-hole. £73 lighter, we finally arrived home in Wandsworth. What a welcome home!
