In my experience a high proportion of the delays at airports are caused by passengers trying it on and then arguing with staff as a result. Too many passengers apply their own barrack room lawyer logic to simple rules which subsequently become complicated because the passenger is attempting to walk on the cracks in the rules or interpret it to sit their own parocial needs. If, for instance, passengers took the simple step of reading the BAA website before travelling they would be better briefed on their responsibilities (yes they do have responsibilities irrespective on the fact that they are a paying customer!). Don't tell me that most passngers who travel aren't able to access the internet or know someone who could easily do this for them. Yes there are rude ataff in all service sectors but those at the airports are probably demonstrating signs of the F1 stress the passengers are also suffering from. It is to the passengers advantage that they don't work at the airport daily like the staff do, caught between the demands and paradox of the red tape and passengers demands. And no they, the staff, don't have to work there but changing jobs isn't that straight forward for most of them, probably because of domestic reasons, as is the case for most of the population of the UK who don't like their job but stick at it.

travelling through Heathrow was a nightmere! you read the information about 1 hr before flight etc. So we got to Heathrow about 90 minutes before the flight to Zurich. The checkin for BA flights was complicated as there was no information on how what to do with the new style checkin system. If we waited in the line to drop bags we would of missed our flights, we managed to get through to an express line as our details could not be found on the electronic checkin. Once our bags had been dropped off we had to run to the gate going via security. At this point some white haired lady had found it to be her job to shout at passengers who did not follow instrutions to the letter. i.e. foot over the line to stay back, not taken belt off, car keys still in pocket, etc. We continued the journey to the gate and managed to get their in time to be greeted by an annoucement that we had to wait for the BA crew for the flight, they were late. The airport itself is of really poor quality it is chaotic, dirty (litter) and the amount of part finished repairs outstandng. I hope in 2012 it is better than this the UK gateway to the world and this is what we have to show. Forget another runway get the current airport sorted first. You only have to look at Zurich Airport clean no fuss and very simple. Security people liked to talk to passengers about what twas required of them which spead things up. Get a grip Heathrow.

Was dreeading the journey through Heathrow after reading of all the lond delays. I was delighted to find that I had checked by bags and cleared security in uhder 25 minutes and was sat in the departure lounge with a coffee. All staff I met were very pleasant. The flight was an hour late leaving but that was neither the fault of British Airways or LHR but of 5 inconsiderate passengers that were 35 minutes late boarding the aircraft.
