Whilst security procedures took some time at Heathrow when we went to Australia in early June, the overall experience was basically acceptable. However, there was and still is a lack of specific information as to what you can and cannot take on your journey with confusing statements as to which items should go in your hand luggage and which should be placed in your case. More serious problems occur elsewhere and particularly bad is Cairns in Australia where confusing instructions are given in that checkin staff give differing information from security employees and in consequence confusion reigns. One ridiculous comment was that you could take on board pre-purchased water on a domestic flight but not on an international flight; as if this makes any difference to a terrorist!

Having had an artifical knee replacement some 6 years ago, which is titanium, this always makes the walk-through machine bleep and I (Brenda) am treated rather like a criminal with sometimes a complete lack of sensitivity. This must surely be a regular occurence in these days.

Outbound was fast due to Check-in kiosks, and security had 5 scanners open. Inbound on 27/8 at 20:00 was the worst I have ever seen at any airport in the world

appalling landing at heathrow. stacked for 30mins on slowest night of the week - saturday on 2100 landing. what a load of rubbish, something clearly not working at heathrow, flights should go straight in at that time. after landing 25mins to deplane because gate not working and 1 set of steps only brought to rear. then immigration the worst yet - over 1 hour for british queue, not enough desks welcoming brits and ec people home. luggage had plenty of time to arrive after that huge wait nearly 2 hours in all. if heathrow can't let a swissair plane land at T2 on the slowest night of the week, there is something wrooooooong. they've had it too easy for too long. what have they spent those huge taxes on? I'm talking about ba not baa.
