Saturday 28 June 2008

What an appalling to-do when we arrived back at Manchester Airport.

We touched down at 2.55 pm to be met at terminal three to be sat on an aircraft for more than 30 minutes to then be put on a bus to collect our bags.

No sympathy for anyone. My husband has high blood pressure and diabetes. We got off the bus to make our way into the building.

We waited and waited and waited for our bags to be told by an airport manager that we had been dropped off at the domestic arrivals baggage hall.

There was a lot of whispering and what appeared to be counting of passengers as we had not got through passport control. I saw people who could not be bothered to wait as they had no bags to collect leave through the doors as the airport staff tried to get everyone to make their way to passport control whereever that was.

We were taken up to passport control and properly processed hoping our bags would be ready.

No not at all - it was another 60 minute wait.

There was no one from Easyjet to apologise or explain. In fact a cleaner explained that it wasnt the first time there had been a botch up and for international flights to be sent into the domestic arrivals.

We then missed our flight to Belfast.

How embarrassing!

My husband was distressed at it all particularly the delay and the fact that people got in without being seen.

We have written to our MP to complain.

Awful experience at Manchester

2 hours to get back in to the UK at passport control!

My poor back!

Rang to complain and get an explanation and ending up speaking to a somewhat evasive, shifty, patronising and uncooperative senior manager

Apalling experience at Manchester Airport.

We had to make our way through a compact duty free area to our gate. Sales people everywhere. Iris recognistion office closed.

Queuing to come back into the country - nearly two hours. Disgusting. Announcements. Claustrophobic.

Then to wait 45 minutes for hour bags.

We became resigned in the end. No one to help. Unbelievable!

The delay was in take-off. Initially told 2 hour delay - not told why but chatting around seemed to be related to inbound flighht weather issues. This then extended to 5 hours as another flight had issues with the cockpit window catch which the piot apparently broken and they could not fix so were transferring appasengers to our flight (Atlanta). Also passengers from another flight were accoodated too (Vegas). We were not kept infromed until later into the delay time. Very frustrating as this caused us to miss a show. We were not offered any refreshments. Can you please advise what the delay time is up until when some compensation should be offered? DELTA DL155

We have travelled with Virgin Atlantic from Manchester on many occasions over the years usually to Orlando.
We believe that on this occation Manchester Airport did Virgin Atlantic no favours whatsoever, We were never given any expilnation as to why it was that (unlike all other years)we were Bused to the Aircraft, instead of simply walking along the concourse, and down the ramp on to the plane, also the amount of stairs that had to be climbed made life difficult for the elderly, and for parents with young chidren, and there were many of these at this time of the year. In all I would say it caused a delay of about one hour.
With out doubt the worst part was arriving at Manchester from Florida to find that once again we had to go through the busing rigmarole, let me explain we arrived at Manchester at about 7.50,we could'nt get off the plane as someone had forgotten to bring the stairs (honest) it took about 20mins to start the disembarcation. We were fortunate that we were at the front of the plane seats30JK what time it was by the time the last passengers got off the plane I could'nt even begin to imagine. The bagage carousel kept stopping because people who were still on the plan were not taking off the baggage as a concequence the belt became overlaoded and therefore stopped, the baggage handlers did'nt seem to have the will or savvy to take any off the bags off to make the load lighter it was bedlam. we did not get out of the airport untill 10.30. I would like to make the point that Manchester Airport are doing Virgin Atlantic who I would consider to be one of Manchester Airport's premier airlines a great diservice by making there passengers use what I would describe as outdated methods of getting on to aircraft, whilst every other small airline had there aircraft lined up outside the terminal building using up the walk ways into the terminal, it seemed incredible that a jumbo jet had to taxi way outside the terminal then have its passengers bussed to the oposite end of the terminal to finally have to walk bach three quaters of the distance back again th get through passport control. Until this unholy mess is rectified I will not be using Manchester Airport
