We arrived 3.5 hrs before departure, so no problems apart from lengthy wait in queue. No delay at Immigration inbound, but luggage took over 45 minutes to appear on the belt after disembarkation. | | ............................................................................................................................................................................................. |

Also, the queues are lengthy to enter the UK because Manchester Airport seems to have tremendous difficulty in staggering their arriving flights.
The Police/Special Branch, the Border and Immigration Agency and HM Revenue and Customs are stretched. Finances and budgets are tight, except for ridiculous polices and ill-conceived procedures. The law enforcement agencies previouslylisted are not there to be polite to the general public (for you are not their customers) but to ensure that criminals, terrorists, smugglers, those with forged passports etc do not get through the border. If you have a problem waiting in line so these undesirables do not pass then don't fly. God knows you'll be bleating when a bomb goes off/someone sells your son/daughter drugs/a gun, someone is shot/stabbed by an illegal etc etc ad infinitum.
I would also point out that the Police, the BIA and HMR&C are nothing to do with Manchester or any other airport, they are law enforcement officers: if you have a complaint about the facilities write to someone else.

As more people live in the UK, they will all want to travel abroad. The airports are under pressure to put on more flights and ultimately more runways. Are they going to employ more staff to deal with the extra passengers only to have the staff sit around when there are no flights? Look at your own employers. Do they employ people to sit about at quiet moments? I dont think so. Also, from my experience, people are happy to get up out of their aircraft seats and stand in the aisle before the plane stops and also wait happily watching an empty conveyor belt for ever but ask them to wait for a security check and suddenly its an infringement on their lives. They have never had to do this before. | | ............................................................................................................................................................................................. |

| | Posted on 20 November 2007 11:44 | | | | I have always found that the Immigration staff at Manchester passport control maintain a very respectable level of service despite the government failing to provide enough of them to deal with the queues more quickly... I regularly travel through manchester and i am continually faced with very long queues on return (and outbound through security), and very few staff on duty to deal with the number of passengers arriving. There seems to be no contingency from the government to staff the borders sufficiently to deal with problem times when multiple aircraft arrive together outside of there proposed schedule. Its not immigrations fault that the flights arrive early or late (and 10 minutes can make all the difference). Give these guys a break and just remember why they are there.. protecting us from the undesireable people trying to come here. Also as passengers we need to remember that if we arrive at the same time as thousands of other people then we ARE going to queue with them, unless you are suggesting that the Government proide an Immigration official EACH to see us all in individiually... Face it.. this is the way of the world.. It only takes a couple of seconds for the Immigration guys to check your passport.. How do you suggest they do it more quickly?? to those who have complained about immigration, you could get in quicker by following their instructions like having your passport ready (out of its "holder") before you get to the desk... it is YOU that worsens the queues and depresses the Immigration guys... | | ............................................................................................................................................................................................. |

| | Posted on 09 November 2007 14:38 | | | We were pleasantly surprised to get through both check in and security very quickly on the 4th Novmber. The biggest delay was with the airline. After boarding and were almost ready to take off on time when a faulty switch was discovered in the toilet. It took two enginners over an hour to disconnect this switch. A real couple of Jobsworths. Paper work had to follow before we could take off. Thankfully we arrived into Orlando only 3 minutes later then scheduled thanks to the pilot. The plane touched down like a feather. So Well done Captain but a lot to be desired with the engineers. | | ............................................................................................................................................................................................. |

| | Posted on 02 November 2007 09:26 | | | What a joke Inbound immigration queues for EU passport holders of 45 minutes whilst other passport holders flew though - makes no sense. Rude and unfriendly staff at security on the outbound flights from Terminal one. | | ............................................................................................................................................................................................. |
