Manchester Airport must be one of the poorest performers surely. In June my family and I had the misfortune to use this airport, which on the occasion had all the appearence of a third world airport during a revolution (together with the degree of organisation you would expect during those circumstances). We arrived at the airport (4:00am) more thane 3hours before our flight (7:15 am), check-in took over 1 and a 1/2 hours, we were told at check-in to go to the security fast track. At the fast track desk we were asked by an arrogant and abrasive member of staff why we were there, when we explained that check in had directed us to do this he said that they had no authority to do this and we had to join the main queue - fair enough but a little politeness wouldn't have gone astray. We then joined the long, long, coiling queue for security. Scattered through the queue were members of staff to ensure the queue followed the right path, in conversation with one of these members of the airports staff I commented that things seemed to be lacking a little in organisation, the response was "If you don't like it fly from a different airport"- what a wonderful attitude. Finally, through security (after a further 1 and 1/2 hours) we arrived at the departure gate. (15 minutes to schedualled take off time). At the departure gate I asked a member of staff what the problem was, causing the extensive queues, I was told that there was nothing untoward and such delays were normal on Friday mornings in summer [wonderful as this was only mid/late June and not yet the peak of the holiday season]. To compound things on our return it was over an hour after our arrival that the first bags arrived on the luggage carousel.

Much quicker out through Manchester T1 (Lufthansa) than previous - was up to 38 mins waiting for security in July. Suggest you log times per terminal as T2 (KLM/AF) seemed much quicker at that time. To avoid immigration delays on return I would recommend travellers to register with IRIS when departing (T1/2 only).

Slowed by security staff repeatedly having to explain the "one bag rule" to bemused travellers. Get rid of the UK govt irrational one bag rule, I say.

I found Manchester to be very quick at check-in and security, even if it was 5am on a Monday Morning, Terminal 2 was busling with holiday makers and yet it was quick and secure!
