The problem we had was with Thomson airlines check in. It was chaotic. We waited in the queue that said Thomson but when we looked again 10 mins later it had changed to Air Malta & we (along with about 20 other people) were told to move queues. We were instructed to go to a lady who would print off our boarding pass before waiting to get rid of our bags but she couldn't find us on their system so we had to queue without it but by the time we got to the check-in desk there were about 50 people behind us who had already had their boarding passes printed & as a result there were no seats together available - even though all these people had come AFTER us.

Dear readers

We thought we could stomach the drive from Manchester to Llandudno however all that changed because we were delayed appallingly at Manchester Terminal 1 on return.

We can accept the flight being late
We can accept some queues NEVERTHELESS

Queue at passport control was unacceptable. It took nearly an hour. Man in green shirt directing queues explained it had been a difficult month and it was supposedly the quietest time of year. He added the passport checkers had been working without a break for over 3 hours intensified by the lack of staff. He wrote down this site for me to read and add my comments. Sadly I did not give him his pen back! The only saving grace was our bags arrived on time - well done Mytravel!

Mike Lowe head of immigration services - that is wrong isnt it? and would you address all these issues. Will you still be making no apologies when someone is traumatised, injured or killed be they passengers or staff? When it goes pearshaped making no apologies or "I was only following orders" will be no excuse.

The queues waiting to go through immigration at Manchester were horrendous. The police suggested that they stop scanning passports to reduce processing time, but Immigration refused to do this.
The poor official who checked my passport said they had been warning their management about the extra time it takes to scan passports. But no change had been made to the number of staff.
He suggested I complain to his boss HMI Ken Paton at Terminal 1

Travel to continent with job - I enrolled on Iris at Manchester. Efficient service - using it was a nightmare unlike Previum at Schipol.

Arrived back to Manchester to a passport control area teeming with people. Various long haul flights - Dubai, Pakistan, kids and familes from holidays and our own flight. There was a woman trying to sort out the queue - no one paying attention to her. I make my way to Iris to find it has been boarded off.

Not the first time I have tried to use it. Had to wait in queue for a considerable time.

I travel regularly into Manchester and can see the strain now on the faces of the border guards doing their level best.

Having read the comments I would not know who Mike Lowe is, would not recognise him. Perhaps he should be there. Does he know where the airport is?

Dear Readers

My wife and I returned from seeing our daughter and family in the Canaries having had a hectic Christmas with our other grandkids in Yorkshire.

Flight home was on time to be delayed because of bad weather - I can kind of live with that. The cabbie was all clued up and had been in contact with the information team at Manchester.

We arrived back in England to large queues backing away from the passport desks. We sidled over to the IRIS Machine to find it boarded off - the airport were replacing desks. What was the point in enrolling. Did the airport and the immigration management not communicate with each other. We will not be using IRIS again this year unless you need it to get back into Yorkshire from Lancashire!

We waited for over 60 minutes to get through passport. The officers were pleasant enough and professional. You could see they were trying their best.

I was insensed when I read comments from the assistant director of immigration who I think will wish he rued the day he made public comments about not apologising when my wife (riddled with osteoporisis) and I were forced to queue to come back into my own country. The buck stops with him does it? I have wrote to my local MP, Paul Goggins, having been shown the Manchester Evening News article in our local.

I discovered your site having read an article in the Manchester Evening News. Well done! I passed through Manchester returning from Dubai to discover the IRIS machine out of order. We had to queue for 40 minutes at the terminal.
So Mike Lowe the assistant director makes no apologies? Claims to have an extra 17 staff. It was January not a busy summer. More staff are needed. I found his remarks contemptful, arrogant and patronising.
I would not take that attitude
