No problems on departure (just after lunchtime) or return (early evening). The luggage appeared on the carousel quickly (within 10 minutes) on return.
Still the nonsense with the pathetically brief free drop-off time in the car park. Oh, and by the way, Newcastle Airport, please don't replace any more of the seating in the departure area with shops/bars/other retail opportunities. I go to airports simply to fly out of them, not to waste money in overpriced shops.

Newcastle Airport must have the worst performance for luggage handling of any UK regional airport. I use this several times each year and without exception there are delays between 30 & 60 minutes before luggage is available. This is the case even when there is no other immediate arrival other than your own flight. I have written to the airport and local press about this but had no response whatsoever. The second point is the immigration. Although there were no delays when I returned on 25 March, at all other times in the last 2 years there have been significant queues. Usually there is 1 EU and 1 non EU desk available. Last November my plane arrived with 2 others within a few minutes and the queues were 30 minutes plus. The facilities are a joke...2 desks in the corridor leading to the baggage arrivals hall - the staff are always very pleasant however!

I would have no hesitation in flying from this airport

No queues
The only problem was we had a wait of 45mins for our luggage on our return

Well, I got lucky this time. Outbound, check-in and security were very swift (afternoon flight). Inbound I was the first to get to immigration, so straight through again. Even the luggage arrived on the carousel quickly (only one flight arrival at that time), so I was home only 40 minutes after the plane landed. Only Barcelona has matched that for me, so two cheers for Newcastle. (It will get three when it can get people through the airport quickly during the morning rush, and when it sorts out the nonsensical drop-off 'arrangements' in the car park.)

In bound to faro airport baggage collection took one hour.
Return to Newcastle baggage retrieval took one hour,
three aircraft on one carosel no indication on monitor
which was first! very frustrating.

check in time was increased due to poor baggage handling process. The belt cannot cope with the volume of luggage. Security check outbound waiting time was acceptable. However the inboond passport control service is pathetic. An assistant advised us that the delay at passport control was due to several planes all landing at the same time. SORRY BUT THIS IS NOT A VALID REASON AT AN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MAKING MILLIONS OF POUNDS FROM TRAVELLERS. ITS NOT AS IF THE PLANES WERE UNEXPECTED? Enough staff should be availabl3e to handle whatever volume of inbound passengers are due.
