Approximately a half of the installed X-ray and scanner lanes were not in service - I was informed that they did not have staff on duty. The queues at each of the security area entrances were well over 30-40 m long, 2 deep, OUTSIDE the security area. Foreign passengers (as well as British) commented on the banana republic nature of the passenger handleing and general BAA staff attitude.

Over 1 hour in an airless corridor with several hundred other tired families returning to the uk is no fun!

What is all the fuss about. Stansted was stress free and easy. To be honest, this website seems a complete waste of time - how can 200 people represent the millions of passengers flying out of British Airports each day. Get on with booking holidays and stop worrying about things Travel Consellors know nothing about!

Dear Mr Nicol,

Thank you for responding to our website, your statistic is recorded. As travel agents we have a legal duty of care to our customers and have a duty within the industry to speak on issues that affect them. The customer experience at airports is in our opinion unsatisfactory.

In our endeavour to be fair to airports our recorded statistics fall off and become less relevant as time passes, so any improvement can be seen and registered. The stats depend on our customers and staff to record their experiences. Obviously there are times when there are no delays at airports. Manchester airport for instance have informed us that their audited security delays show that 85% of passengers go through security within twelve minutes. But you have to bear in mind Manchester handles 80,000 passengers per day therefore 12,000 take longer than this. If you went to a restaurant and most people got served in a reasonable time and you didn’t it would not make your complaint of slow service unreasonable. Similarly our site does not purport to show good and bad but to show that there are problems and unacceptable delays for some passengers.

In our opinion airports don’t understand that there should be a minimum time for ALL passengers to go through security not an average time.

We respect your views but as long as some of our customers have a poor and unacceptable airport experience then we will continue with highlighting these problems.

Yours Faithfully

Our flight to Bodrum was delayed by over 18 hours, we were given many conflicting excuses and available facilities were very limited due to time of the delay (after midnight on a Sunday)
