What travellers had to say about All UK Airports

Dateline - March 03/08th 2009
Location - Manchester Airport

I have been using Manchester Airport on a regular basis for the last couple of years and have seen the place deteriorate inspite of the cosmetic changes and new shops.

Short delay at Security Checkpoint however am appauled at the fact that one has to pay a £1 clear plastic bag 'tax' - so how much more money will Manchester Airport make?

Eye retinal scan office closed again! Thank goodness my other half paid out for executive lounge entrance as a treat- lovely service at Terminal 2. With all the drilling and banging we encountered at least one could get away from the building works that out-Dubai Dubai.

Upon our return to Manchester into Terminal 1 we attempted to use the biometric machines that have been installed to be turned back by someone who said Irish passports would have to go through the Irish queue? I think he meant Iris. We ended up having to go back to the horizontal floor travelators some 200 yards back joining a disjointed queue of weary tired passengers and footballers.

I have emailed and rang the UK Border Service to no avail to get some answers as to why offices are closed and staff are lacking in numbers.

In fact when I rang one office at the airport and the conversation went like this:

"UK Border Service"
"Hello I want to complain"
"What do you want to complain about?"
"The queues and the closure of the retina office
"Oh we dont deal with that"
"You are the Border Service are you not?"
"Yes but we do not deal with that you need to contact the Border Service at Terminal One"
"Thats who the operator put me through to"
"Yes we are the border service but we dont deal with passports or iris"
"Well who does?"
"The border service"

It transpires he meant the old Passport Control. I spoke to someone briefly at Terminal 1 who I could not get any sense out of to ask why my husband, 3children and I have to queue for ages. No one has volunteered to answer so far. I only think it is a reasonable request that they comply? Dont you?

Emirates were brilliant from start to finish with regard to outbound, inbound and connecting flights

Manchester Airport - the world's favorite building site?

Spent 20 minutes at security on the way out to Germany to weave through duty free. I wanted to enrol on eye recognition. Office closed due to works nearby.

It gets worse.

We return to Terminal One to what I can only describe as artic temperatures.

A frosty welcome from Manchester Airport. Realise I have a chip passport so try and use mine to be advised there was a system glitch.

Had to queue to see shivering border guards huddled around an oil heater wearing scarves gloves and winter coats. Disgraceful.

Precisely how much money does Manchester Airport make each year from the travelling public and cannot get their act together.

What a rigmarole!

I fly frequently, two or three times per month. UK airports have the worst security in Europe in my opinion. I cannot comment on rest of the world. They are so slow, unfriendly, and disrespectful towards the passengers. Despite all other European airports relaxing security. Uk Airports still insist that every passenger remove their soft airport friendly shoes, wooly hats and leather belts without a metal buckle, and ask parents to drink baby milk. It's OTT and seriously bad cusomer service, which the UK is supposed to pride itself on.

the queue was only about 30 deep, but there were a lack of trays to put bags and coats in and a lack of staff to check the belongings
