Fabulous experience. Clean airport , busy but no queues. Gatwick has got it's act together and is improving all the time.
I noticed additional security lanes had opened since my previous trip in January. These have been totally refurbished to a high standard.

I have been flying from Liverpool to France weekly since April 2007. Only had significant security delays two or three times (so have needed to use Fast Track)

Manchester Airport Terminal One - 10 oclock/evening 19.02.2008 return from Frankfurt - LH4858
Appalling wait at passport control. Only 4 officials on desks. Assured by address system that all staff were available. 1000s of passengers. It was like the United Nations.
I travel frequently to Germany and can accept these delays in the summer. February? What is it going to be like in August?
Somehow I do not think it will get any better and judging by the comments I have read will get worse before it begins to improve.

Dreadful service both outbound and inbound. Inbound delay through passport control was particularly bad, we were kept penned in an access tunnel way before the immigration hall because it was too croweded to hold all the arrivals. Even though it was nearly midnight in Feb, the tunnel was extremely hot with not air-con and very few seats. People with small children were really struggling. Finally got let inot the immigration hall which was in absolute chaos. It was completely packed with no queue control, no information, nothing. We did see one airport official and asked if there was some big incident going on he just said "There are too many of you". I will never fly through Stansted again and would strongly urge anyone else to consider carefully before doing so. The airport should not be allowed to treat people like this and they cannot use the increased securtiy checks as an excuse for abusing their customers.

A complete and utter nightmare - we almost missed our flight despite being well on time at LJLA - solely due to the radiculous hour-long queue for security. LJLA also runs a queue jumping system at £2 per person. A rip off (we all pay airport tax already when purchasing a ticket) and absolutely unfair treatement (the rich can go through faster!), as there are about 4 gates to pass if you pay, but only a narrow lane with stairs otherwise. Is this even legal? Further, about 3-4
airport staff were assissting eagerly in collecting the money by "Fast Track" machines (that's a joke, right?). I suggest they would be deployed at security instead.
There were lots of angy, frustrated and dissatisfied (mildly said) passengers, all worried about whether being able to catch their flights. The security were also pretty rude and unprofessional. When I raised a question, they addressed me as "my mate" (are we friends? well, I do not recall we had per tu), and they requested that my whole family removes their shoes, including my little onces (that much about freedom of information!). After that the security at the x-ray machine waived to his colleague. We received a special treatement: all my handbag items were scanned one-by-one, even a half-inch memory stick, my ipod ear plugs, etc... altogether about 20-25
pieces. When I asked why is this all necessary, the security personnel said, he can call his manager if I want to complain. I said no thanx, as time is now really short. In spite me repeating twice that I do not wish to complain, he still insisted calling for his boss. Again, I became "mate", now to the manager (it seems LJLA is a place to make lots of friends quickly:)), who has advised me to complain in writing on a very synic tone with a smile on his face. When I got back the items and the handbag taken away for special scanning, all they were damped on a tray, and I was reminded to "... you are ready, here are belongings, move on quickly". I packed away carefully
everything what was returned to me and the empty tray was grabbed out almost from our hands. I only noticed upon my arrival that items were missing. I phoned the LJL Airport immediately, but I was denided to have a word with a representative from airport security, in spite of reminding staff that some items are "sensitive" in terms of data protection. I was also advised, that "it is the responsibility of the passangers to make sure that all items are collected". So, is this a
memory game or what? And what if something is not returned at all, like in this case? Was it an accident or was this some sort of retaliation for daring raising questions? In legal terms it is called theft or unlawfull appropriation if a property is taken away against the will of the owner. I was also told that my missing items were passed to the Information Desk, and I was advised to come and collect them. For the question of what if I am in the US, the response was: "...well, items not collected go to charity...".
I will try and avoid this airport whenever I can again and recommend the same for all others unless the situation improves. Now I am pressing police charges.
