I regularly use Gatwick airport on thursday evenings returning on monday mornings. Typically the south terminal security queue stretches out of the snaked area out around the entire block of check in desks and has been known to almost reach the entrance to the train station i.e. backing up into arrivals!

On occasion I use BA from the north terminal and this is nearly always swifter - they have their own monopoly...

In the terminal areas themselves its a case of too many poor quality aspirational shops selling too many shiny things when all you want is a packet of tea for your holiday...

I am a freqent traveller through Gatwick and the wait through Security is always more than 30 mins

Travelled to Pisa with BA - used the self service kiosks which were easy to use and very quick. Made use of IRIS coming back through immigration and this meant I did not have to queue at all.

In departure lounge at Gatwick, just before you board the plane, a fire alarm went off and it caused chaos. There appeared to be no emergency fire drill procedure and nobody took control of the situation, be it airport staff or Virgin Atlantic personnel.

The delay was 5 hours at Gatwick, Really put a downer on the start of the holiday. The queues were ridiculous everywhere, food, toliets bar etc

Airline Used - Easyjet

Gatwick offer a Day Before Check in Product - this was used with Easyjet - no queue - staff ready to process my family and I at Check in

On Arrival - From Arriving at the Aircraft Stand with Easyjet to collection of our Bags and walking into the Arrivals Meet and Great area took less than 15 minutes
