What travellers had to say about Liverpool Airport

Arrived at the check-in queue 2 hours prior to departure. It took 40 minutes to check-in (I think we must have joined the wrong queue where there was a huge party checking in!). We had one case overweight, which we were aware of, so had to go to the excess baggage queue which by this time was much longer than when we had started at the check-in queue. That must have taken at least 20 minutes. Went immediately to security and could not believe the queue which was way past the stairs at security. We didn't even have time to go to the toilet or grab a coffee. There was ONE person on security who was letting through perhaps 3/4 passengers at a time, where the 'express security' had 5 members of staff dealing with passengers who had chosen to pay the £2 extra. At 5.55am Ryanair announced that all remaining passengers to Granada make their way to the gate immediately. I mentioned this to the security man who was letting 3/4 passengers max through at a time that we were on that flight, and his reply was 'you'll be OK' (bearing in mind the flight was due to depart at 06.05am). The next announcement was that the 4 remaining passengers (with names announced) proceed immediately to the gate, of which we were 3 of them, but we were still waiting to collect our hand luggage which to me seemed like the security personnel were deliberately taking their time to scan them and pass them down. I ran to the gate and explained to a member of Ryanair staff that we were on our way and that we had spent ONE hour going through security, but her response was that 170 passengers had got through OK, we should have paid the extra for express security!! I don't think so when we are already paying for security charges when we book our flights! They had, by this time, offloaded our luggage, but fortunately they let us on the flight and we were delayed for half an hour whilst they 'reclaimed' our luggage and loaded it back on the aircraft. We are extremely disgusted with the attitude and arrogance of the security staff at Liverpool airport (this is not the first time they have been rude as we travel quite often back to the UK from Spain) and this is the first time we have ever had to literally RUN to board the flight. Our experience of travelling from Granada airport to Liverpool is pleasant - the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and you are not treated like cattle like you are at Liverpool airport. We travelled back to the UK in October this year and did not experience this passing through security - it was plain sailing all the way. Considering that Liverpool has been chosen as the City of Culture, the experience we have had travelling out of the airport will not do the City any good and I would strongly advise anyone NOT to travel from Liverpool airport. I cannot for one moment imagine that Spaniards, Greeks, Italians etc. would be prepared to pay an extra 3.50€ to pass through security. IT IS A TOTAL SCAM!

online check in and priority boarding used both ways.
We went straight through security, no check in required and the flight was about 25 minutes late departing, but made up the time and arrived early.
Same on the return no check in required and straight through security at Alicante airport & flight departed early. We queued for about 10 mins maximum on the return into Liverpool at UK passport control. Overall a very positive experience & 10/10 for Ryanair. This is the second time this year that we have used this flight & both times have been positive!

It was not very busy when I travelled and the queue was quite obviously manipulated to make people wait longer in order to persuade them to pay £2 to reach the front of the queue. There were five xray machines in use and only one was used for those who did not pay the surcharge. Those in that queue were also obligded to remove their shoes making the passage through security even longer. I complained to the duty manager who said it did not bother him that people had to wait 30 minutes.

We travelled on Easyjet 6.30 flight 7179 to Malaga.
Check in time was normal but when we went upstairs to the departure area the queue was unbelievable. The fast track check in was flowing very quickly and we were almost going to take that route when it was announced the flight was to be delayed by 1 hour due to staff shortage (no pilot), so we stayed in the queue. Since the last time we flew they had changed the system and this time we were herded like cattle down a narrow stair well before being checked for liquids etc. There was only one X-ray machine in use for 400 plus travellers as there were 3/4 flights at the same time. When we eventually managed to get through security I asked to see a supervisor to log my complaint and while I waited a further 5 minutes for a "customer care form." During the wait I noticed that there were 3 X-ray machines and 6 staff handling a trickle of "fast track customers". I made my comments known to the Supervisor who said it was nothing to do with them (sounds like an excuse form the WaffenSS) and told me to write in the Liverpool John Lennon Airport Customer Services Department. In contrast the journey back from Malaga Airport was trouble free & stress free - maybe the Spaniards can teach use a trick or two about customer service!!!

Regular traveller with Wizz Air. No Delays at all. I cannot understand some of the long queue times mentioned on this site as I never encounter them at
Liverpool.
